Pneumothorax

Good times don't last long. The x-ray from this morning showed that Riley has a pneumothorax in his left chest (air pocket causing a collapsed lung). Apparently air seeped in when the chest tube fell out yesterday. He's being moved back to the PICU now to be sedated so a new chest tube can be placed. We're not sure how long he'll need to be back over there, but obviously our hopes for going home in the next couple of days have been dashed for now.

Oh the poor guy...BOO BOO BOO! This is so frustrating. How come they did not notice this drain was loose???? With all the pulling as he moved around you would think they would. SO SAD! Hanging in there with you.

Poor old Riley, he really is not getting any luck. We're hoping that all is sorted out quickly and that he recovers like the little champ that he is. We're thinking of you, we love you.

Delurking to let you know even people you don't know are pulling for you guys. What a roller coaster you've been on. We're saying extra prayers for this one to pass quickly so you can go home quickly & get back to the business of being a family again.

That is EXACTLY what happened to Cassidy in the hospital: her chest tubes had been in so long that eventually one fell out after a PT session and she had an emergency situation resulting from a collapsed lung. I'm so sorry to hear that Riley (and you guys) had to to through that! It makes me wonder how frequently chest tubes just "fall out" and they have to deal with collapsed lungs. HOpefully, it won't set him back for too long and he'll be on his way home soon. At least it sounds like the pleural effusions have mostly cleared up. You are all in our thoughts constantly. We hope tomorrow brings better news..........and that the good news lasts!

How frustrating it must be for you to get so close to leaving the hospital, only to have this new complication develop. We hope this is just a temporary road bump on his road to recovery.

Catching up on some other recent posts: congrats on the Make a Wish approval! Riley so deserves to have his wishes granted after what he's been through the last month (and the last year). I love the thought of Riley sitting at home, thinking about what to wish for. :-D

We continue to pray that you can all go home soon, and that the Glenn circulation provides Riley with better overall health and fewer complications than the Fontan did.

"Delurking" is a perfect term. Virtual hugs and positive thoughts from someone else you don't even know. I'm praying and pulling for you too.
