A birthday dinner

Last night Suzanne suggested that we try to go out to dinner to celebrate my birthday. We had an opportunity to get out because my Mom is in town and could watch Carter while my Dad stayed in the PICU with Riley. When we arrived at the restaurant I was completely surprised to discover that Randy, Jayne, Tim, Christa, Jennifer and Ryan were joining us. It was a really nice diversion from the hospital and a fun time all around. Thanks to Suzanne and to all of you for coming out and salvaging my birthday. You guaranteed that this year's hospital birthday turned out much better than last year's.

And finally, Riley had the Fontan surgery one year ago today. Everything went crazy about 24 hours later and he ended up on ECMO the following night. We've come far in the past year but in so many ways it feels like we haven't gone anywhere at all.

I'm glad you two were able to get out and enjoy each other and friends. I had to laugh about the toilet situation that Suzanne wrote about - I felt the SAME way when we were there - especially the bathroom around the corner from the family resource room - toilet always covered in urine. I hope that things continue to progress and, as always, Riley is in our thoughts.

Glad to continue to hear good news. Let's pray that the fluid drainage slows down so he can step down and be closer to going home. Love you all and thinking of you constantly. It's hard to be the only immediate family member not there, but know we're there in spirit. Love, Auntie and Stephen
