Riley's right chest tube was removed earlier today. He was very uncomfortable during the quick procedure, but was just fine moments after. Fortunately they did not need to administer an IV to provide him with the adequate sedatives. Instead he got a dose of something to make him forget and some Tylenol with Codeine for discomfort. Sadly, the left chest tube is still slowly draining. It won't be coming out today or tomorrow. We are hoping that it will come out Wednesday, but we won't know if that is possible until we get to Wednesday--it all depends on when it stops draining, and no one can predict when that will happen. Once it is out, we are hoping that we'll be able to go home the following day, but we're not counting on it.
This means that Riley will remain on heavy doses of diuretics--Lasix three times a day, Diuril twice a day, and Aldactone to help pressure the potassium in his system.

So glad he got rid of one ! Yeah Riley ! He sure is an amazing little fellow. I'm sending good thoughts your way that the other tube comes out ASAP-Joce
I was thinking yesterday that it's been a full month since the surgery. That's such a long time to spend in a hospital, and I can't imagine what a burden it's been on everyone. We all continue to pray that you will be able to go home soon.
How long will he need remain on the diuretics? Is this just a temporary measure until he heals?
hey guys!
it sounds like steady progress overall. and isn't it the overall trend that is most important? he's eating and walking and talking about the things he loves (like home!). so encouraging!
and i bet you just can't wait until you are out of there! i can't wait either!
much love to you all.
Sarah
Home soon, I can feel it! Hang in there. Riley is a trooper, it was so good to see him the other day looking like a slightly thinner (and a bit more dopey!) version of his old self.
Not long now we are all praying.
Loads of love
