Synagis begins

Riley received his first synagis shot of the season today. He will get this shot every month for the next five or six months to protect him against RSV, a common respiratory virus that could be deadly because of his asplenia.

Riley also received his flu shot about two weeks ago. Doctors recommended that Ken and I get the flu shot as well (which we did) because of Riley's compromised immune system. Even though Riley has been vaccinated, it could be dangerous for him to be exposed to the flu.

In other news, Riley has been very interested in walking with his walking toy and anytime he can grab onto our fingers. He still has a lot of work to do with his balance, but he is gaining confidence. He no longer has regularly scheduled physical therapy appointments, but I will remain in contact with the therapist he saw at Kaiser as well as the folks at the Golden Gate Regional Center, just to continue monitoring his progress.

Here is a link to tons of recent pictures of Riley getting into everything, as well as him enjoying Halloween trick-or-treating!! Enjoy.
